Prof. Ugo Elmore - Minimally Invasive Gastrectomy

Gastric resection is the cornerstone of the multimodal treatment of locally advanced gastric cancer. The surgical procedure consists of the removal of part or the entire stomach- according to the location of primary neoplasia- combined with the clearance of lymphnode stations according to D2 lymphadenectomy. The reconstructive phase may vary according to surgeon's preference: in our unit a Roux en Y reconstruction and an end to side esophago-jejunal anastomosis is routinely perform, as it is shown in the video. The application of laparoscopic total gastrectomy with D2 lymphadenectomy for gastric cancer is nowadays well recognized, especially in high-volume centers, since its benefits over conventional open gastrectomy have been well documented in literature.
